A very ancient technique, probably going back to 350 B.C., wood inlay developed in Italy in the 15th century and became very popular as a craftsmanlike tradition in Sorrento in the second half of the 19th century.
The technique of wood inlay consists in making drawings on wood by using pieces of wood, of different colours, which are less thick than one millimetre.
